Insurrection in the Capitol: In an effort to stop the electoral college count during a joint session of Congress, supporters of President Trump stormed the Capitol building. This led to a lockdown and an evacuation of Congress.
Ossoff Wins Georgia Race: Jon Ossoff wins the Senate race in Georgia, becoming the youngest U.S. Senator since Joe Biden was elected in 1973. With this victory, the Democratic Party will be the majority in Senate.
Facebook and Twitter Lock President’s Accounts: The social media companies have locked the President’s accounts and have removed videos by the President supporting the violence at and inside the Capitol.
American Airlines Bans Emotional Support Animals: Starting January 11, American Airlines will ban emotional support animals, forcing pet owners to have their pets fly either in the cargo hold or in kennels that fit under the seat. This policy does not apply to service animals.
Merrick Garland Slated As Attorney General: Judge Merrick Garland is expected to be picked by President-elect Joe Biden to serve as Attorney General. Garland was nominated by President Barack Obama to serve in Supreme Court after a vacancy from the death of Justice Antonin Scalia, however, the Senate refused to consider the nomination.
