Illinois Eliminates Cash Bail: As part of criminal justice reform efforts, Illinois becomes the first state to eliminate cash bail. The new law will be rolled out over two years, and be fully in effect in 2023.
White House to Deliver 25 Million Masks: The Biden administration announced that it would distribute 25 million masks to community health centers and food pantries in an effort to curb COVID-19 and make the pandemic response more equitable.
Johnson & Johnson Vaccine Deemed Safe by FDA: The FDA has deemed a Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 Vaccine safe and effective against severe forms of COVID-19. The vaccine is a single dose, and has an 86% success rate versus the severe forms of the illness.
Black Lives Matter Foundation Raised $90 Million in 2020: The national Black Lives Matter Foundation raised $90 million in 2020, with average donations of around $30. The foundation spent about $8 million in operating costs, and has approximately $23 million committed, leaving a balance of around $60 million.
South Dakota Attorney General Urged to Resign: The attorney general of South Dakota Jason Ravnsborg has been urged to resign, and has been impeached by state legislature after being charged with striking and killing a man with his vehicle. He stated he thought that he hit a deer, but investigators found the victim’s glasses in his car.
